Sustainability

For us at Tärnaby Fjällhotell, we attach great importance to being able to run our business with sustainability in mind. Sustainability for us means efficient and sustainable business, reducing our environmental and climate impact and the resources we use in our business operations. It also means taking care of our staff, taking our social responsibility and working with ongoing planning and follow-up of our business in order to constantly be able to add additional ways of working and focus areas to streamline and improve our business and the guest experience we want to convey.

Below you can see how we work with sustainability in our sustainability policy.

Sustainability policy

Tärnaby Fjällhotell is a personal hotel located in Tärnaby at the foot of Laxfjället with views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Gäutan.

The company runs a hotel/conference and restaurant business based on high class service and customer care, a high sense of quality and sustainability. We strive to be able to offer our guests and visitors products and services that, while maintaining quality, have been produced with the least possible environmental impact.

This policy sets out the direction of our environmental and sustainability work. Our vision is to make the best environmental choices and to take social responsibility in our daily operations. Through our sustainability policy, we want to create a good structure for working with sustainability issues in order to continuously improve, streamline and develop our business with sustainability as a focus. Our operations comply with current environmental legislation and other requirements, and we are inspired by Sweden's national environmental goals and the UN's global goals, which we try to contribute to in our sustainability and environmental work.

Priority sustainability areas:

Sustainable entrepreneurship:

In our business, sustainable business is about long-term planning, execution and follow-up in business operations. It is important for us to work actively with sustainability and environmental issues related to our business. In addition to this, our employees must have and experience a safe working environment, with fair conditions, be able to develop and enjoy their daily work. Furthermore, we attach great importance to being involved and collaborating with associations and the local community in our area. In order for us to succeed in our work, the business is planned long-term, we evaluate our work and commitment and follow up annually. This is to be able to re-evaluate and improve our activities and our sustainability work.

Energy and water use:

We continuously review, monitor and follow up on energy and water consumption in our operations. We also work to limit our consumption and use of energy and water. This is done, for example, through water-saving measures in the form of routines for washing dishes and water consumption in kitchens, water-saving faucets and shower heads, ongoing training with employees in housekeeping regarding water-saving measures. We are working on replacing energy-saving luminaires and light sources such as LEDs and phasing out older alternative light sources and luminaires. We use motion sensors for lighting in public areas to limit energy consumption in our operations. We work continuously on renewal measures to limit energy and water consumption based on the conditions of the property and in collaboration with property owners.

Travel & transport:

Travel is one of the company's major sources of emissions. Therefore, when traveling on business, we strive to choose the most environmentally friendly options, carpooling or public transport by bus or train. Where possible, we prefer digital meetings, over teams, video/phone conferences instead of physical meetings.

Transportation of deliveries for purchased goods and products for our operations is a significant part of our climate impact. We carefully plan the purchase of raw materials, food and goods for the hotel to reduce the number of transports to our hotel. We receive annual reports from our suppliers and can follow up on how our work to streamline and reduce the number of transports / deliveries to the hotel.

Waste and resource use:

The amount of waste generated by the business is mainly through the operation of the hotel/conference and restaurant business. In our business, all waste, including environmentally hazardous waste, must be disposed of in a correct and sustainable manner. We sort our waste and food waste at source into compost and, as far as possible, as sorting for biofuel. We will work continuously to reduce our amount of unsorted waste.

In the part of our business where we work with cabin rentals and self-catering, we encourage our guests to take responsibility for their waste and encourage sorting at source.

Textile washing is a major part of our environmental impact. The company uses a partner and laundry company for this. The laundry is used for the company's guest service and restaurant operations. The company we work with today is environmentally and sustainability certified, Nordic Swan labeled and certified with good working conditions / working environment and has the Laundry Association's certification. It is of great importance to us that the partners we work with are on the journey to reduce the burden on our environment, take social responsibility and take care of their employees.

In day-to-day operations, chemicals and cleaning products are used to ensure that the business maintains high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and quality for our visitors and guests. We use the precautionary principle to choose alternatives and products that are eco-labeled and have a lower impact on the environment. We work continuously with our staff to ensure that everyone applies the correct amount, reducing overuse of the chemical products we use in our hotel operations.

In our business, when purchasing raw materials for food, we strive to buy Swedish raw materials, locally produced and seasonal. We choose origin-labeled and eco-labeled and, as far as possible, organic and or KRAV-labeled raw materials. When purchasing meat, poultry or fish, for example, we strive for Swedish origin labeling, MSC, ASC or organic and KRAV labeling. This is a conscious position and action as we are convinced that this is a major part of how we can reduce the impact of our business on the environment and biodiversity and an important part of supporting local producers with our purchases. We therefore hold ongoing dialogues with our suppliers to be able to expand the options of locally and locally produced raw materials we use in our operations.

Skills and awareness:

For us, it goes without saying that all of our employees are involved in our sustainability work. Therefore, we continuously ensure, through training and meetings, that all employees are aware of our sustainability work and the impact our business has on the environment and the surrounding community. It is important that our employees are aware of, and that they have the tools to contribute in their work to working sustainably to reduce the environmental impact of the business.

Social responsibility and cooperation:

The company places great emphasis on cooperation and collaboration with the surrounding community. Our business places great emphasis on and participation in collaborations and activities together with associations around Tärnaby and Hemavan and within Storuman municipality. We see collaboration with the surrounding community as a great benefit and investment as we care about our village. It is important to us that our guests and locals find value in the activities and events organized in and around Tärnaby and our business. We want to be able to contribute and be an obvious part as a visitor destination and partner in our area.

Principles of responsible business conduct:

In addition to the work on environmental and social sustainability highlighted in this policy, there are guidelines and policies that govern the company's work on equal treatment and equality, good working conditions for our employees and maintaining good customer service and business ethics.
